FIRP Laboratory web site
30 Years of Research and Development
A word from the Director

The Laboratory of Formulation, Interfaces, Rheology and Processes (FIRP) started its activities 30 years ago, in october 1978.

FIRP Lab. is a group of professors from Universidad de Los Andes, in Mérida-Venezuela, who are involved in fundamental and applied research and education dealing with surface science and applications, and who also provide R&D, services and counselling to a wide industrial partnership in Venezuela and abroad.

With over 20 teachers-researchers from the Colleges of Engineering, Sciences and Pharmacy, it is probably the largest latin american association of scientists and technologists in the field of formulation of complex systems, with experts in physical-chemistry, interfacial phenomena, surfactant science, dispersed systems, micro-, macro- and nano-emulsions, foams, their rheology and transport, and separation processes with membranes.

Our work concerns a wide range of industrial activities and business such as petroleum production and refining, petrochemicals, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, paints, pulp and paper, agrochemicals, foods and others.

Our laboratory also receive for training a large number of undergraduate, master and doctoral students, postdoctoral associates, and trainees from our industrial partners. Our group participates in a Surfactant and Interfacial Phenomena Network which includes various national and foreign groups with activities complementary to ours.

The purpose of the new web site we are inaugurating for our 30th anniversary, is to supply useful information to researchers, teachers, students, and industrial partners worldwide.

Welcome to FIRP web site.
